Read 'em and weep:
www.vivaleague.com/l20spring/Highlights:
- Mike Rose's team somehow amassed a -43 run differential in 16 games,
thanks to allowing 6+ runs a game. Ouch!
- NewGuyBrian's much-mocked Dodgers were middle-of-the pack in
pitching, but led all of League (by far) in both batting average and
fielding percentage. Top pick Mat Latos didn't dazzle (3.94 ERA) but
won both of his starts. Underestimate at your peril, AL.
- Ross' Cubs posted unimpressive numbers yet somehow ran away with the
League's best spring record at 12-4 ("and so it begins..."). Brian
Wilson pitched 9.1 scoreless innings on his way to going 7-for-7 in
save opportunities.
- Orioles 2B Freddy Sanchez -- the most unlikely MLB batting champ of
our lifetimes -- rocked the house with a .455 BA and 1.159 OPS in 16
games. Fellow Oriole Jose Bautista made further mockery of spring ball
by launching 8 homers in 16 games, but karma demanded balance, so
Bautista also committed 6 errors at 3B.
- Also booting the ball at the hot corner was the much-hated Adrian
Beltre, now wasting space on the Padres, who committed 5 errors.
Beltre did hit though, with his 3 homers contributing to the Pad's
scary 26 total homers, led by 5 from Carl Crawford (?).
- Rockies ace Clay Bucholz emerged as the spring's best starter, going
2-0 with a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings.
- Nationals "ace" Adam Wainwright got the shit kicked out of him,
giving up 10 runs in 9.1 IP across two starts.
